Chess Meet is for chess — online and across a real board. These rules keep it that way. They apply everywhere in the app: games, chats, profiles, meetups, places and tournaments.
Meeting in person (Meet & Play, 18+)
Stay safe when you meet
- Public places only — the listed café, club or venue. Never a home, a car or “somewhere quieter”.
- Never share a live location, an exact position or your address, and never ask for someone else’s.
- Keep personal details private: phone number, school, workplace.
- Tell someone you trust where you are going and when. The app’s “Share my plan” does it in one tap.
- Keep to the plan. Pressure to change the place or meet somewhere private is a reason to leave, block and report.
- Report results honestly: both players confirm a game with a code exchanged at the board, and results count only when you both agree.
Never allowed
- Harassment: contact that continues after someone says no, insults, stalking.
- Threats of harm, in any words.
- Sexual messages, images or advances.
- Hate: attacking people for who they are.
- Scams: asking for money, selling, suspicious links.
- Pretending to be someone else, or giving a false age.
- Cheating: engine help during a game, playing someone else’s games, losing on purpose, or using several accounts — including to enter the same tournament twice.
- Fake places or fake tournaments, or organising a tournament you do not intend to run.
Look out for younger players
Never ask someone under 18 to meet you, to move to another app or place, or for photos or personal details. Accounts that do this are closed. See child safety.
Tournaments
- Organisers run the event they listed, at the place and time they listed.
- If you register for an in-person tournament, come or withdraw in time. Missing two you registered for within 60 days pauses registration for 30 days.
Reporting and blocking
Report from a player’s profile, a meetup chat message, a meetup, a tournament or a place. Block from a profile: it stops all contact both ways at once, and the other player is not told. Every report is read by a person.
What happens when rules are broken
From a warning to a ban
- Warning — you receive a notification with the reason.
- Suspension — for example from Meet & Play, for a number of days.
- Permanent ban — the account is closed.
- Anything that puts someone in danger is acted on at once and may be passed to the police.
